Subject areas include:

A number of our departments received "excellent" scores in the British Government's assessment of teaching quality (TQA): Business and Management, Art and Design, Economics, Politics and Modern History, Psychology, Social Policy, Dance, Drama and Film, Electronics and Philosophy.

 

Please note that all of our programmes are taught in English.

 

London Metropolitan University is one of Britain's largest universities with over 19,000 full-time students on two campuses. The University is very international in its orientation and we have over 4000 international students from 140 countries in total. Over 1700 students have come to us from European Union countries alone. There are more than 300 German students currently studying full-time on London Metropolitan Courses.

 

London Metropolitan University was formed on 1 August by the merger of London Guildhall University (now City Campus) and the University of North London (now North Campus). We are a publicly funded University. You should, however, note that at English universities all students do need to pay tuition fees. Please see the fees section below.

Start of Academic Programmes:

There are two intakes per year for most Bachelor and Masters Programmes, one intake is at the beginning of February and one in September.

 

Length of courses:

Full-time Bachelor programmes: mostly 3 years, but a few programmes have a mandatory year abroad or a mandatory work placement year.

Full-time Masters programmes: usually one full calendar year (12 months)

 

Requirements for German Applicants for our Bachelor Programmes:

We would expect applicants to have good grades in their Abitur, no lower than an aggregate mark of at least 3 (Befriedigend) or above. We also accept the International Baccalaureate and the European Baccalaureate.

In terms of English language requirements we would expect applicants to have grades of "1" or "2" in English in their Abitur or equivalent. Applicants with lower marks in English will have to demonstrate their English language competency by taking one of the following English exams:

 

- TOEFL: 550 with 4.0 in test of written English, or 213 in computer based test,

- IELTS: 5.5 overall with a minimum score of 5.0 in each component

- Cambridge Advanced Certificate

- Cambridge Proficiency Certificate

 

Requirements for German Applicants for our Master programmes:

We would expect candidates to have one of the following qualifications:

- Diplom (University or Fachhochschule)

- Magister Artium

- Staatsexamen

- Bachelor

Please note that applicants for MBA programmes will also need to have 2 years work experience.

 

In terms of English language requirements we would expect one of the following English exams:

- TOEFL: 580 or 237 in computer based test

- IELTS: 6.0

- Cambridge Proficiency Certificate

Support Services for our Students:

London Metropolitan University has a good range of services to support its home and international students. These include:

- the Accommodation Service, which will help you find accommodation either in one of our halls of residence or elsewhere in London

- Five libraries

- Internet and Email access for all students

- the Student Advice Centre, which will be able to advise you on a wide range of welfare, health and financial issues

- the Careers Centre, which will provide you with support in planning your future career and in finding part-time work during your studies

- English Language support

- Students' Union, which is an organisation by students for students at the University and which organises a wide range of social activities and clubs.

Fees

Please note that in England all university students need to pay tuition fees.

 

Bachelor Programmes

 

Key facts for EU undergraduate students starting in 2006/7 or after:

 

- no tuition fees until after you graduate

- the tuition fee for full-time Bachelor programmes will be £3000 a year

- Student loans to cover your tuition fees during your studies are available to all EU students through the UK based Student Loan Company. The fees will then be paid directly by the Student Loan Company to the University.

- You will only have to repay your student loan once you have left university and once you are earning over £15000 a year. The repayments will be 9% of any amount that you earn above the threshold of £15000 a year.

- Alternatively, you could opt to pay your tuition fees to the University directly, at the start of each year of studies, either in full or in instalments through the University approved instalment scheme.
